ROBIN is a collaborative robot designed to interact with and support surgeons during bone resection tasks in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) procedures performed with conventional cutting tools.

ROBIN’s precise and seamless workflow assists the surgeon by providing continuous, real-time feedback and valuable insights tailored to the patient’s specific anatomy, enabling on-the-fly target verification and adjustments.

Once trained and authorized, operating room staff can perform ROBIN-assisted TKAs without the need for a dedicated ROBIN technical specialist in the OR.

ROBIN supports a CT-free (preoperative scan-free) approach, resulting in significant time and cost savings for the hospital.

The ROBIN platform is also designed to accommodate future applications, such as robotic-assisted procedures for unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) or total hip arthroplasty (THA), in combination with United Orthopedic Corporation advanced solutions.

High-precision human-robot collaboration

But how does a surgical procedure with Robin actually unfold ? Even before the procedure begins, the operating room team carefully prepares the surgical environment to ensure seamless interaction between healthcare professionals and the robotic system. The precise placement of the robot is crucial, allowing for optimal integration with the surgical team and ensuring maximum maneuverability within the operating space. Accurate positioning of the equipment and meticulous calibration of the robotic system are essential to guarantee smooth operations and procedural success throughout the intervention.

During the procedure, the surgeon uses infrared markers to accurately map the patient’s anatomy onto the robot’s interface. These markers enable the robotic system to “visualize” the patient and their movements in real time. As a result, Robin can precisely track the patient’s position and anatomical features, providing highly accurate guidance and optimal alignment throughout the entire surgical procedure.
