Robin

The next-generation robotic assistant for total knee arthroplasty!

At United Orthopedic Europe, innovation meets surgical precision with Robin, our robotic assistant designed to optimize every step of total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Developed and manufactured in Europe, Robin is the first European open-platform surgical robot to receive MDR certification from the European Union—an acknowledgment of its technical excellence and compliance with the highest medical standards.

Robin stands out for its operational intelligence, providing seamless and intuitive support in the operating room. As a true extension of the surgeon’s hand, it performs precise bone resections, ensures optimal limb alignment, assesses soft tissue, and contributes to the accurate balancing of joint spaces. The result: more precise, reproducible, and patient-specific procedures.

Powered by advanced KUKA LBR Med technology, already certified for medical use, Robin offers a combination of agility, reliability, and safety in a compact, ergonomic design. Its rapid integration into the surgical workflow makes it a valuable asset for surgeons, healthcare providers, and medical device stakeholders alike.

Engineered for professionals, designed for patients—Robin is redefining robotic assistance in orthopedic surgery.

Mission and Collaboration

Collaboration, expertise and research

Our objective is to collaborate with orthopedic surgeons in the development of innovative digital solutions and services, with the aim of improving clinical outcomes and enhancing healthcare professional satisfaction.

United Orthopedic Europe, under the leadership of its President, François Bopp, has actively supported and funded this project, contributing to the creation of the ROBIN experience by combining industrial vision, technological innovation, and a strong commitment to healthcare.

Robin is a product 100% designed, developed, and manufactured in Europe (KUKA robotic arm – Germany; Orthokey navigation system – Italy).

For over 20 years, Orthokey has been shaping healthcare innovation by merging Italian design with expertise in developing solutions that combine functionality and aesthetics.

The development of Robin has benefited from financial collaboration with United Orthopedic Europe.

More precise surgery thanks to Robin

The success of a surgical procedure largely depends on the skills and expertise of the surgeon: the more complex the operation, the more critical the surgeon’s role becomes. Traditionally, orthopedic surgeons rely on manual and mechanical instruments—a process that can be time-consuming and prone to inaccuracies.

With its robotic system Robin, Orthokey is transforming orthopedic surgery through advanced computer-assisted technology. Robin supports the surgeon throughout the procedure, enabling precise preoperative planning for optimal implant positioning and ensuring highly accurate bone resections.

By analyzing the individual anatomical characteristics of each patient, Robin delivers a fully personalized surgical approach. “We place several trackers on the patient, which are detected by a high-precision camera system with an error margin of less than one millimeter. This allows the surgeon to anticipate and determine the ideal implant placement even before the first bone cut,” explains Simone Bignozzi, Product Manager at Orthokey.

Robin is setting a new standard for orthopedic surgery: safer, more precise, and entirely patient-centered.

United Orthopedic Europe’s Footprint

The strengths that define and strengthen our market position :

  • Rapid launch of innovative solutions
  • Proven and reliable product portfolio
  • High-level scientific congresses
  • Exemplary, responsive, and personalized customer service
  • Advanced training program tailored for healthcare professionals
  • Sustainable partnerships with numerous key opinion leaders (KOLs)

“At United Europe, we recognized early on the added value that a robotic system could bring to the orthopedic market. We initially partnered with a U.S. company that eventually decided to focus on the FDA market rather than CE marking.”

“Faced with the complexity of the situation, I decided to contact Cristiano Pagetti, a renowned expert in navigation systems with whom we had previously collaborated, to propose that we develop a robot together. He was immediately enthusiastic about the idea and introduced me to Professor Paolo Fiorini, a robotics professor at the University of Verona. One year later, we had the first prototype of ROBIN! The rest was a long journey through regulatory tunnels, and today we are proud to present what we believe is the next generation of navigated robotic systems.”
